Los Prados was a 5.1-hectare plot planted in 1982 in Laguardia, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria. Sitting at 630 meters above sea level, it was known for its unforgiving conditions, shaped by strong winds and low temperatures.
This plot had to be uprooted to make space for the irrigation pond in Laguardia. Given the years of dedication and the sentimental ties we hold to this piece of land, as well as its familiar history, we decided to replant its 450 vines. In doing so, we aimed to identify a site with matching soil attributes, gradient and aspect, to preserve the distinctive qualities of this exceptional plot.
We found the right site just behind the winery, also in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, with poor clay-limestone soils and at 610 metres of altitude. Hence, this is the origin of this limited and exclusive production.
Vintage
September – October
The 2019 vintage was excellent. Los Prados is made with handpicked grapes, in 10-kilo crates. Fermentation took place in open oak barrels, with gentle punching down, for 11 days. Subsequent aging lasted for 16 months, in used French oak barrels.
Color
Ruby with a purple rim.
Nose
Great aromatic intensity with notes of black fruit, plum, liquorice, gooseberry, and a subtle hint of spice and minerality. It also shows a very nice floral touch.
Mouth
Firm and fresh at the same time. It is a complex, serious, and sincere wine, revealing soft toast flavours and hints of black fruit. It offers extraordinary harmony and concentration, and a great ageing potential.
