Vineyard
When talking about Ysios Grano a Grano, more than the vineyard itself, it’s worth highlighting the particular way we follow to select the grapes for its production. It’s a day when the entire Ysios team, along with our families, manually de-stem -grain by grain (or “grano a grano” in Spanish)- the clusters selected for this wine. In this way, we achieve a wine that represents the purity of the Tempranillo and reflects the passion and care in its crafting.
Vintage
September – October
The 2021 vintage was defined by low rainfall and good weather conditions during the harvest period. With these conditions, the grapes had excellent health and quality. Overall, it was a fairly warm year, with temperatures averaging 1 to 2ºC above normal. However, the year began with the impactful Filomena storm and a cold, damp January, contributing to a sufficient water reserve, but conditions significantly softened from spring onwards.
The key point in this wine is the bunch selection of Tempranillo grapes. They undergo manual destemming, grain by grain, into used 225-litre open-top French oak barrels with a fine grain and medium toasting. Alcoholic fermentation, with gentle punching down, lasts for 15 days. Subsequently, malolactic conversion and aging take place in these same barrels.
