Vineyard
Ysios Selección is the representation of Tempranillo from Rioja Alavesa, located in several small plots distributed in villages close to the winery such as Laguardia, Páganos, Lapuebla, Elvillar, etc. All these vineyards are planted in goblet (bush vines), dry-farmed, and over 35 years old. The respect for tradition with a forward-thinking mindset produces this true expression of Rioja Alavesa.
Vintage
September – October
The harvest of 2018 was long and abundant, starting later than usual. Initial concerns about mildew, due to the June and July rainfall were alleviated by favourable weather conditions in September and October. Grapes were selected from different villages in Rioja Alavesa, showcasing the region’s diversity.
Harvest was carried out manually in 12 kg crates. starting in mid-September in the faster-ripening vineyards near the Ebro River and continuing until early October in higher, cooler plots with a greater Atlantic influence. Plot-specific fermentation in several stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures, followed by a minimum aging of 12 months in French oak barrels of different sizes.
Color
Appealing and vivid cherry-red colour.
Nose
Intensely perfumed, with notes of red fruits, forest berries and black fruit tumbling out of the glass. Delicate hints of spices and minerality add to its beautifully balanced character.
Mouth
Elegant and fresh, with hints of both red and black fruits, complemented by subtle toasty undertones. Silky on the palate, with enveloping tannins and a long, graceful finish.
